Private Dentist VS NHS Dentist
Choosing the right dentist can make all the difference with your treatment – and could even affect what treatments are available. Here at 19 Wimpole Street our expert dentists work hard to provide the care you need for a healthy smile.
As well as being private dentists, we’re also NHS dentists, which means we offer our patients the best of both. If you’re looking to find out more before joining our books, then read on to find out the differences between them and which could work best for you.
Private Dentist
This type of dentist can cover all your basic needs, as well as a range of cosmetic and restorative treatments. This might include things such as dental implants, teeth whitening and orthodontics (such as Invisalign). There’s a wide range of treatments on offer and as well as ones that maintain the health of your smile, there are plenty to enhance its appearance, too – and boost your confidence along the way.
While some patients consider private dentists to be more expensive than NHS dentists, they can be much more experienced – you’ll often find specialists in different areas of care, such as implantologists, who focus on dental implants. And, treatments are priced competitively – not to mention that you’re paying for that experience and expertise, as well as the treatment itself, for peace of mind and a job well done.
NHS dentist
First up, let’s look at NHS dentists. This is your everyday dental care (what we might call ‘routine dentistry’, or dental hygiene), plus anything else that keeps your mouth, teeth and gums in top condition. So, extractions, fillings and other treatments would fall in this category.
NHS dentists are subsidised by the NHS, which means that while you’ll pay, the NHS also covers some costs. It can be a great affordable option and, since treatments are put into bands (or categories), there won’t be surprises on your bill.
Evaluation
Finally, private dentists often see you quicker than NHS dentists, as there is more demand, leading to long waiting lists.
